ICYMI: PhRMA COO Lori Reilly spotlights efforts to improve health care in 2022 and beyond.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made clear how important a stable health care system is to the American people, both during times of crisis and beyond. Patients deserve sustainable, patient-centered solutions, not temporary fixes. And while our industry has the greatest innovation ecosystem in the world, three in 10 insured Americans still face financial barriers to care.
On May 4, PhRMA sponsored the Axios event: The Prognosis for Health Care Reform in 2022, where PhRMA COO, Lori Reilly joined Axios Co-Founder and President, Roy Schwartz, in a conversation about the barriers to health care patients face today. A recent Patient Experience Survey by PhRMA found that 1/3 of Americans feel their health care costs don’t work for their budget. And many patients have seen dramatic increases in their out-of-pocket costs for medicines due to deductibles and coinsurance. Other insurance practices – what’s known as utilization management – also create significant barriers between patients and their medicines.
America’s biopharmaceutical industry is ready to do our part in working towards delivering what patients want: solutions that lower their costs, address barriers to care and inequities in the system and preserve future innovation.
